With all religions there is a certain amount of brainwashing. People who participate in religion knowingly accept this fact. In any religion on the surface it implies everyone should be exactly the same. People of a strong religious nature tend to exert their beliefs on and judge those around them, forcing everyone to be the same. Individuals in religion teach that everyone else lives is sinful. This is based upon specific moral belief standardization, with in that religion and they expect everyone to adhere to the same. They claim this is God’s will, and lay claim only God can pass judgment. While being raised we are all taught differently and as such our conscience operates differently. What is acceptable for one, some people feel is wrong for them. Some people live their entire lives fighting to win the acceptance of those around them, often with in their own religions. These people never achieve complete happiness until they let go learning to live their own way. When living a religion it is not about being the same, it is about the doctrine, and the kind of character a person has and the manner in which they treat others.
Below is a quote from a conference talk that was given by Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin from the 178th Annual General Conference, April 2008. This talks about the differences of people around us and the lack of acceptance they often feel... (for the talk in its entirety go here: http://lds.org/conference/talk/display/0,5232,23-1-851-6,00.html)
"Some are lost because they are different. They feel as though they don’t belong. Perhaps because they are different, they find themselves slipping away from the flock. They may look, act, think, and speak differently than those around them and that sometimes causes them to assume they don’t fit in. They conclude that they are not needed.
Tied to this misconception is the erroneous belief that all members of the Church should look, talk, and be alike. The Lord did not people the earth with a vibrant orchestra of personalities only to value the piccolos of the world. Every instrument is precious and adds to the complex beauty of the symphony. All of Heavenly Father’s children are different in some degree, yet each has his own beautiful sound that adds depth and richness to the whole.
This variety of creation itself is a testament of how the Lord values all His children. He does not esteem one flesh above another, but He “inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; . . . all are alike unto God.”3"
If everyone was the same and lived the same, what point would there be in agency? Even in peace with perfect harmony, there would still be differing opinions and lifestyles. Once a decision is made by individuals to live life out side what is considered normal, that is when love of those around them becomes conditional and they feel no longer accepted. Sometimes friends and family choose to criticize, condemn, and judge. They may also state revelation was received for that person on how to live.
For this reason, a choice is often made to cease communication with certain family and friends. Email and phone blocks are often also established, to prevent negative energy from intruding and damaging them. Any time accusatory judgment is brought against someone, even when done out of love and compassion, if done incorrectly, it will do more damage than good. Some people never feel accepted by their own religion and often stray from their religious principles never coming back, still believing it true.
Once a person chooses to live life as their conscience dictates, a weight is removed from their shoulders. They realize they will never be accepted by those who were their confidants. Their life is now their own. At that point in time, understanding comes, that they had been living for someone else. If people cannot let others live in peace, then they do not understand basic principles that all religious foundations are based on.
Peoples lives are their own, not some one else’s. If they want people to live differently, they should set an example by living in that manner. Peoples opinions are their own, and like advice only needed upon request. The communication barrier ceases to exist only when others realize that forgiveness does not only apply to grievances that one person has committed against another, it also applies in allowing others to live their own way. This is stated in the Law of Allowance.
The Law of Allowance: "Diversity creates a marvelous opportunity for growth. The law of allowing loves diversity! We are not here to change others. Accept that we can allow others to be as they are, to believe as they do. The only person we can effectively change is ourselves. In changing the way we relate to others we in effect change the way they relate to us because we have upset the balance in the way we interacted with them before. In accepting others as they are, we allow them to grow and to learn for themselves. The more time a person puts into being anti-anything, the less time they have to spend bringing positive things into their own life. Now that people are allowing others to follow their path, those people are free to follow their own."
There is another law called the Law of Attraction - This law works in harmony with the law of Allowance. It basically states what ever we focus on or desire we are granted. If we focus and desire more negative, than we receive more negative, if we focus and desire more positive, we will receive more positive. This is in harmony with the scripture stated in Alma chapter 4 verse 4: "I ought not to harrow up in my desires, ... for I know that he granteth unto men according to their desire,..."
It is by desire thoughts and actions spring from and how things in life occur. We can focus inward in a positive non-selfish way working for the better, or exert useless energy outward in a feeble attempt to force change on others creating a negative environment pushing them away, making them feel unaccepted. By living the Law of Attraction, a more positive environment is established, drawing others naturally to us which propagates until a harmonic paradise is created. Without differences that make us unique, life would become meaningless with out purpose. We were created differently for a reason. That reason is for us alone to discover. Any one who seeks to force change over another lacks compassion and understanding propagating a negative environment.
